TRC has an immediate need for a Plant Controller for a small, privately-held, manufacturing and distribution company. This is a small company with only 25 local employees so we need someone that is very comfortable wearing multiple hats. Previous experience with a small-mid sized business is a big plus.


Manage the activities of the accounting function in the preparation and maintenance of proper accounting records. Prepare monthly financial statements.

Ensure adherence to sound, generally accepted accounting principles, such as the accurate matching of revenues and cost, sensible capital versus revenue decisions, conservative valuation of inventories and other assets, and consistency in the application of these and other principles.

Report and analyze financial results to the General Manager on a timely basis, providing data critical to the management decision-making process.

Determine KPI’ s (Key Performance Indicators) for the different functional areas of the Company and ensure that systems have been developed to provide this information in a timely fashion. Confirm that functional managers have taken corrective action when KPI’ s identify problems and unfavourable trends.

Ensure that all sales are at or above agreed gross margins. Monitor and report exceptions. Determine reasons for exceptions and review with General Manager.

Formulate or recommend for approval proposals for policies on accounting, cost accounting, tax matters, the compilation of statistics and preparations of financial reports, control and protection of inventory and other assets, the taking of physical inventories and government reporting. Formulate procedures to implement such policies.

Formulate policies on credit matters and direct the credit and collection activities. Monitor past due accounts and take collection action as required.

Formulate and recommend for approval proposals for policies on banking, foreign currencies, receipt and disbursement of monies, and custodial and investment matters and on preparation and payment of payroll; administers such policies when approved and direct such activities.

Maintain advantageous relations with banks and other segments of the financial community.

Ensure that systems and practises are in place to effectively monitor and control working capital (cash, A/R, inventory, A/P).

Educational Requirements:

University graduate
Member of a professional accounting society (or alternatively, very experienced in the role)

Experience Required:

5 years’ experience in progressively more senior accounting positions
