Our large tire manufacturing client, located outside of Atlanta, GA is looking to hire a Materials Engineer to join their team on a long-term, permanent basis.

{The requirements have changed on this role. Ideally, our customer is now looking for a recent graduate with at least a 4-year chemistry degree (or similar degree), up to someone with around 4 years of experience (instead of someone with 10 years of experience working for a tire manufacturing company). The following description is just an outline for the position and not we are not looking for every requirement}


Job Duties:
• Maintain the company’ s compound database, and provide quarterly quality report
• Manage and motivate the associates in material laboratories, providing advice, guidance and direction to ensure initiatives are developed and executed, and goals are met, in accordance with the company’ s management plan objectives
• Meet the Management Plan for materials related projects
• Manage new raw materials evaluation and development
• Manage new compound development &Industrialization process
• Manage material laboratory activities
• Optimize existing compound (recipe and mixing) for cost reductions or for performance enhancement
• Drive quality improvement of compound and reinforcement related activities
• Manage technical/quality activities related to compounds and materials
• Develop and issue compound mixing specifications and compound local property specifications
• Manage and maintain the company’ s technical know-how (recipes, specifications, etc.) with compound suppliers
• Plan and execute laboratories budget
• Represent the company when dealing with all our stakeholders
• Participate in the annual Research and Development MP (management plan) and strategic planning processes
• Provide expertise and opinion in material engineering to Product Design, Product Testing, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and Purchasing

Education/ Experience:
• Minimum Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or Engineering
• Strong Knowledge in Rubber Chemistry and Mixing technologies
• Good knowledge in gauge management and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA)
• Sound knowledge and experience for reinforcement materials (textile and steel cords)
• Good knowledge of ISO, ASTM standards and methodologies for rubber materials and tire reinforcement materials
• In depth knowledge on Six Sigma Black Belt for driving quality improvement for materials engineering
• Intensive and extensive knowledge about the rubber performance, compound formulation and polymers/fillers structure relationship
• Understand the principles of polymer characterization tools such GPC, DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR and rheometrics analysis
• Experienced in the use of laboratory device such as MDR, Mooney viscometer, RPA, tensile tester, etc.
• Hands on experience in rubber compounding/mixing and processing equipment such as mixers, mills, extruders
• Skilled and experienced in the management of material laboratories
• Good managerial skills to manage the relationship between our suppliers from technical and material quality aspects
• Good multiple project management skills with capability to be a team leader or team member in the multi-culture working environment Basic knowledge in tire structure
• Basic knowledge on tire design for car and light truck tires
• Familiar with product testing for indoor and on-vehicle methodologies
• Ability to work with Product Design, Product Testing, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality to provide expert opinion related to materials engineering
